Dogecoin (DOGE) is 1st-generation cryptocurrency originally created as a travesty of the crypto sector. As a fork of the source-code of Litecoin (LTC), it’s first block was mined in December of 2013.

The Dogecoin blockchain can process roughly 30 transactions per second. Notable features of Dogecoin, which uses a Scrypt algorithm, are its low price and unlimited supply. It has predominantly been used to tip content on Twitter and Reddit, but has since gained much attraction since its advocations from Elon Musk.
